Fireworks in a jar is a fun science activity to do with kids of all ages. For younger children it’s a great way to discuss colour mixing and for old kids you can discuss density.

This science activity uses things you probably already have at home: a clear jar, water, oil and food colouring.

Steps

  1. Fill your container ¾ of the way with warm water.

  2. In a separate bowl, mix 4-5 tablespoons of oil and a few drops of food colouring.

  3. Use a fork to mix the oil and food colouring together

  4. Gently pour the oil mixture in the jar and then wait for the fireworks
